Cataracts are a common condition, especially for adults over the age of 70. They are typically treated with cataract surgery. At A B Vision Eyecare, our ophthalmology practice is ready to help our patients with cataracts.
When the proteins in the lens of the eye begin to break down and clump together, cataracts form. The lens becomes foggy and fuzzy as a result. Cataracts can make seeing clearly quite difficult, especially at night or in dim light. Cataracts can eventually lead to blindness if left untreated. Here are some early signs to look out for.
Blurry vision- Perhaps the most common symptom of cataracts is blurry vision. If you notice this, make an appointment right away.
Increased light sensitivity- Have you noticed it is more difficult to be around light sources of any kind? Cataracts can make it difficult to adjust to changes in light, whether it's the sun or artificial light sources.
Changes in color perception- Your entire world view may appear to have a yellowish or brownish tint to it. The reason for this is that cataracts can change the way light passes through the lens of your eye.
Fading or disappearing vision- In more serious cases, cataracts can cause vision to fade or even disappear altogether.
Cataract surgery is needed for patients to improve their vision. The process involves the removal of the natural lens of the eye and replacing it with an artificial one. Cataract surgery is a safe and effective way to improve vision and your quality of life. We work with you from the initial consultation and post-operative care.
Cataracts are a relatively normal eye condition. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, we encourage you to make an appointment with Dr. Mattis at A B Vision Eyecare as soon as possible.
